a poor orphan was crying down the streets
as the fortunate passed by clean and neat
the little child begged for something to eat
nobody noticed even for a bit
down the streets the poor little orphan died
with nothing but emptiness by his side
up to heaven with angels as his guide
there he met Jesus with arms open wide
Jesus asked why he suffered a great deal
why oh why did not he just cheat and steal
the little orphan bowed down and went still
his tears streamed down as he rocked on his heels
"i knew for each and every toy that i rob
another poor lad down the streets will sob
and for each penny i stole from a snob
a father turns broke from losing his job"
Sir, i can't let others carry my pain
the sacrifice you’ve made will be in vain
and I always knew you carried my chains
you keep me warm and protect me from rain"
Jesus had that old soft smile on his face
for his sweet innocence and ample grace
the child lived pleased in his heavenly days
down the streets of heaven’s most rightful place
